With less than a week until March, it feels like this year is whizzing by! For many of us, it's been a rocky start to 2020. We thought, what better way to spread some positivity and feel connected than to get fundraising for your UWS community! We’ve put our thinking caps on and have created a fundraising pack with virtual fundraising ideas, so you can get started right from the comfort of your own home.

Virtual fundraisers might sound boring to begin with, but with a little imagination they can be loads of fun! They’re easier to organise than an in-person fundraiser and it’s less expensive to put together. Imagine how many people can attend your virtual fundraiser now with all of our access to the best modern technology there is? The possibilities are (almost) endless!

Here are five fundraising ideas to get you started. Remember to take pictures (always ask permission), and send them to us to share with your UWS community and beyond. Email us at [email protected] with your photos!

1. Virtual Race

Why not organise a walk-a-thon, marathon, dance-a-thon, a whatever-you-name it thon and workout with your friends at the same time! It also keeps you active whilst supporting UWS students.

2. Movie night

Not a fan of the active option? Not to worry, why not put together a virtual movie night? Choose a movie, maybe something linked to education, and watch the movie with your friends together virtually. Encourage people to donate to UWS in place of a ticket and afterwards host a discussion about it!.

3. Online Auction

If you’re really up for the challenge, ask your art friends and family members to produce artwork for an art auction. Even better, put together an evening to help parents and teachers understand why you are raising money for UWS and let the auctioning begin! Once people hear the stories of how they can change students’ lives, those bids won’t stop!

4. Virtual pub Quiz

Host a virtual quiz online and invite your mates – even better why not create a little healthy competition between your teachers and your friends! You can ask guests to make a donation to take part and the winner receives a prize!

5. Easter treat deliveries

Even if you don't celebrate Easter, there's no better excuse to bake up some chocolatey treats. Ask your friends and family for donations, and in exchange you can send them chocolates, brownies, or other treats in the post! You could even include handwritten cards.

Every penny that you raise will make a real difference to children living in the most marginalised communities. Just £75 is enough to pay for a whole year of schooling for a child at a UWS school - why not set yourself a target of how many years of schooling you'd like to raise for?
