We are delighted to announce that, from June 2020, we are welcoming Peter Taylor as our new Chair of the Board of Trustees.

Peter was co-founder and Managing Partner of Duke Street, a leading private equity firm. Peter also shares our belief that education is a transformational experience for the individual as well as the communities in which they live.

Over the last five years Peter has focused on education for the disadvantaged, accumulating a wealth of experience in the non-profit educational and social enterprise arena during his work with Do School, the Wimborne Academy Trust and teaching at the King Solomon Academy.

Combined with his Duke Street experience, these roles have given him Board experience of both profit-oriented and charitable organisations and specific skills in terms of mentoring entrepreneurs in developing countries, leading institutional fundraising, chairing organisations as they grow, and the leadership of international organisations.

Commenting on his appointment as Chair of United World Schools, Peter said:

“United World Schools’ mission to teach the unreached says it all. I benefited from a transformational education as a child and I am very excited about working with the outstanding team at United World Schools to deliver the same to the children whom we serve, and to scale up our delivery even faster in the coming years.”

Thank you to Chris Outram who will be stepping down, as required by our trustee terms of reference, having completed two, three year terms as Chairman. Chris’s tireless commitment to UWS since 2012 has been a source of inspiration for UWS colleagues and our supporters around the world. Under Chris' chairmanship, and thanks also to our growing supporter base, we have established over 200 educational projects, enabling around 35,000 children to enrol in primary education.

Chris will remain a great supporter of UWS and will continue to work on the board with Peter and the UWS Team as we take our work to the next level.

A very warm welcome to Peter, and a huge thank you to Chris.

Finally, to all our supporters, stay well, stay safe and thank you for being part of our journey. Together we are transforming lives.
